GPS to celebrate female athletes in March 22 webinar

The Glenbard Parent Series: (GPS) Navigating Healthy Families will present A Celebration of 50 Years of Women Athletics and Title IX with Jen Brooks and Nancy Reno at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, via Zoom. Go to glenbardgps.org for the link to this webinar. To be placed on a reminder list for GPS events or submit a question in advance, send an email to gilda_ross@glenbard.org

Title IX is the federal law passed in 1972 that removed barriers for female student athletes.

Brooks experienced discrimination, and because of her work in high school athletics, she was inspired to find her voice and help others find theirs.

Joining Brooks in conversation will be Glenbard West graduate and beach volleyball Olympian Nancy Reno, who is a longtime advocate and role model for female athletes.

This webinar will promote awareness and conversation on being one’s authentic self and highlight the importance of allies.

Brooks is the athletic director at Ursuline Academy and serves on several athletic associations. Reno lettered four years in volleyball at Stanford, where she earned All-American honors and was selected as the school's top female athlete. She is an emergency room nurse.

GPS is generously sponsored by the Cebrin Goodman Center, Community Consolidated School District 93 Birth to 5 Community Coalition, Cooperative Association for Special Education (CASE), College of DuPage, DuPage Medical Group, Emmy Gaffey Foundation, Glenbard Early Childhood Collaborative, Kiwanis Clubs of District 9, and Prevention Leadership Team of the DuPage County Health Department.
