Message From The Mayor
As Americans, we treasure our freedoms, and in turn, we respect the right of all people to live their lives under a government they choose, rather than one that is imposed on them. The citizens of Ukraine are currently battling to maintain that freedom, and they deserve our support and our prayers as they persevere and meet their aggressor. I ask all Darien residents to keep Ukraine in their prayers with the hope that good will prevail, and the Ukrainian people will once again enjoy the fresh air of freedom.
“Man is continuously torn by the conflict of two desires – for truth and for comfort – and try as we may we cannot yoke them together, for truth makes us uncomfortable, and comfort insulates us from truth” - Unknown
This is one of my favorite quotes; it has been hanging in each of my offices for over the last 48 years, and is a constant reminder that transparency in each of our undertakings, while challenging, is key to remaining true to oneself.
I do not believe that I have ever met anyone who is perfect; who even under the best circumstances does not err, and come up short. The challenge is to look in the mirror, admit one’s mistake, and accept responsibility for one’s error. Unfortunately, we seem to be living in a world, where, rather than accepting responsibility, individuals look to place blame on others, be they governmental bodies, individual groups, or simply other individuals. Rather than accept the “truth” of their actions, they seek “comfort” in placing responsibility somewhere with someone else. As a result, much of the negativity we find on social media seems to be the result of individuals who fail to see the role they play in their own discomfort, and they lay blame for their problems on others.
While there is room for legitimate critiques of governmental bodies, individuals, or political leaders, be objective in your interpretation of what you read; are there facts that back these statements, do they come from a trusted source, or are they simply the work of an individual seeking “comfort” from the “truth?”

Off-Road Vehicles Prohibited
There have been a number of instances of off-road vehicles being driven on South Grove Park property and city streets in the Farmingdale Village area.
These activities are prohibited by law specifically 625 ILCS 5/11-1426.1, Operation of non-highway vehicles on streets, roads, and highways. The law states, in part, “… it is unlawful for any person to drive or operate a non-highway vehicle upon any street, highway, or roadway in this State.” A non-highway vehicle is described by statute as a motor vehicle not specifically designed to be used on a public highway, including all-terrain vehicles, golf carts, off-highway motorcycles, and recreational off-highway vehicles.

Storm Drain Reminders -
Only Rain Down the Drain
Have you ever wondered where exactly the stuff that runs into a storm drain goes? The mysterious pipes hidden beneath those metal grates on your street corner usually connect to a nearby river or creek. In some places, storm drains send water underground, and these aquifers are even harder to clean up than streams. That’s why storm drains are only for the rain and snowmelt!
Help ensure that our rivers and drinking water sources are clean by keeping pollution out of neighborhood storm drains.
