Men's Hoops Holds Down MSOE

Benedictine University Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan.

The Benedictine University men's basketball team did not trail and held visiting MSOE to just 32.7 percent from the floor in bouncing back from consecutive defeats to win at home.

THE DETAILS

• Benedictine jumped out of the gates by scoring the first four points of the game on baskets from Nick Kosich and Carter Knuckles

• MSOE came back with the next four points to tie the game for the only time in the contest before Benedictine tallied four in a row and did not trail

• Knuckles recorded a three-point play with 4:29 left in the half to put Benedictine in front 27-15 and the team led 31-21 at the break

• The visitors opened strong in the second half and pulled within two points at 36-34 less than five minutes into the half

• Benedictine responded with six straight points as three different individuals scored to move ahead 42-34 just before the midpoint of the half

• Consecutive baskets from Mark Blaszczyk and Mason Sobiesk stretched the lead to 49-36 with 8:52 to go

• MSOE pulled within eight with 4:29 remaining before a 7-0 spurt fueled by four different players made the score 61-46 with under two minutes to play

• MSOE scored the final five points of the contest

STAT LEADERS

• Benedictine used a total team effort to grab the win with no player notching more than nine points

• All 12 players who saw the floor scored at least two points; All 12 players also grabbed at least one rebound

• 32 of the points came from the bench

• Benedictine shot 45.1 percent in the contest

• Kosich and Trevor Montiel both totaled nine points and four assists

Benedictine (6-7, 5-3 NACC) hosts Illinois Tech on Wednesday.
