Rep. Amy Grant to present memorial highway resolution honoring Staff Sgt. Robert J. Miller
State Representative Amy Grant will formally present the Illinois General Assembly’s House Joint Resolution 60, which designates a portion of Illinois Route 38 in Wheaton as the “U.S. Army SSG Robert J. Miller Memorial Highway,” during the Opening Ceremony of the Field of Honor event on June 30.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Seven Gables Park, located at 1750 S. Naperville Road in Wheaton. Community members are invited to attend and participate in honoring Staff Sgt. Robert J. Miller, a Wheaton native and Medal of Honor recipient.
House Joint Resolution 60, sponsored by Representative Amy Grant and State Senator Seth Lewis, designates the section of Route 38 between County Farm Road and Winfield Road in honor of Miller, who lost his life while serving in Afghanistan in 2008.
“Staff Sgt. Robert J. Miller embodied courage, selflessness, and devotion to duty,” said Grant. “As my service in the Illinois House comes to a close, it is especially meaningful to help ensure his legacy lives on in the community he called home. This memorial highway serves as a lasting reminder of his sacrifice, his service to our nation, and the example he set for future generations.”
Miller grew up in Wheaton and attended St. Michael School and Wheaton North High School before enlisting in the United States Army in 2003 with service in the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne). He deployed twice to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom before sacrificing his life on January 25, 2008, during an enemy ambush that saved numerous team members’ lives; he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for these actions.
Grant will recognize Miller’s life and military service during remarks at the Field of Honor Opening Ceremony.
Grant was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois' 47th House District in 2023 after replacing Deanne Mazzochi, according to the office.
