City of Naperville Board of Fire and Police met Sept. 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

A. CALL TO ORDER:

I would like to call the Board of Fire and Police Meeting to order.

Pursuant to Section 120/7(e) of the Illinois Open Meetings Act, the continuation of the Governor’s disaster proclamation, and Mayor Chirico’s executive order determining that in-person public meetings are not currently practical or prudent because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are holding this Board of Fire and Police Commission meeting remotely.

The commissioners and staff participating in tonight’s meeting are all in different locations in accordance with social distancing guidelines, and steps have been taken to ensure that the Commissioners can hear one another and all discussion and testimony. The public has been provided notice of alternative means of access to the meeting so they are able to contemporaneously hear all discussion, testimony and votes. All votes shall be taken by roll call.

B. ROLL CALL:

Present 5 - Shafeek Abubaker, Ronald Davidson, Mike King, Mark Wright, and Kirsten Young

C. PUBLIC FORUM:

No members from the public attended

Review and approve open session minutes from September 7, 2021

A motion was made by Commissioner Wright and seconded by Commissioner Davidson

F. REPORTS:

1. Police Department Report

2 PD retirements coming up

Successful use of Naper Notify last week; jogger was down with a heart attack in the forest preserve and Naper Notify helped track down his wife

Felony Lane Gang has been hitting towns; garage and car burglary’s have picked-up

2. Fire Department Report

1 potential retirement

Successful 9/11 ceremony over the weekend

G. CLOSED SESSION:

12:10 p.m. - 12:52 p.m.

H. ACTION ITEMS:

Approve continuing in the process police officer lateral candidates #27 and 28

A motion was made by Commissioner Wright and seconded by Commissioner King

Aye 5 - Abubaker Davidson King Wright Young

Approve/Deny the authorization to hire firefighter/paramedic candidates #3 and 8

A motion was made by Chairman Young and seconded by Commissioner King to authorize hire to firefighter/paramedic candidate #8. A motion was made by Commissioner Wright and seconded by Commissioner Abubaker to continue in the process firefighter/paramedic candidate #3 in which Commissioner Davidson's vote was "nay"

A motion was made by Commissioner Davidson and seconded by Chairman Young

Approve/Deny the appeal request of police officer lateral candidate #26

A motion was made to DENY the appeal request for police officer lateral candidate #26 by Chairman Young and seconded by Commissioner Davidson

Review and approve the executive summary closed session minutes from February 11, 2020

A motion was made by Commissioner King and seconded by Commissioner Wright
