State Sen. John Curran (R-Lemont) recently announced that not-for-profit volunteer organization Downers Grove Fish received a donation of shelf-stable bacon from the Illinois Pork Producers Association.
“Congratulations to Downers Grove FISH,” Curran posted on Facebook. “The IL Pork Producers Association is hosting a Pass the Bacon campaign in recognition of October Pork Month. Their goal was to find local food pantries in need of protein. I nominated Downers Grove FISH and recently learned they were awarded 25 boxes of shelf-stable bacon.”
Curran also recently took the time during Illinois Nurses Appreciation Week to express his gratitude to nurses in recognition of all they’ve done to battle the COVID-19 crisis and to keep local residents as safe as they can be.
"Every day, nurses work hard to deliver compassionate, quality care in a variety of healthcare settings throughout Illinois," he said in a video from the Illinois Senate Republican Caucus. “But for the past 14 months, our nurses have gone above and beyond to address healthcare needs during extraordinarily challenging times."
As far back as in early May, Curran was also among the lawmakers applauding Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s decision to finally allow businesses to commence preparing to fully reopen.
“This is great news,” he posted on Facebook.
More recently, Curran has tackled the issue of mask mandates in schools, voicing his concerns about the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) moving to penalize schools deemed in violation of the governor’s mandate during a Sept. 15 Illinois Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) meeting.
"Does the board plan to file administrative rules to implement EL 2021-18 or the revised public health guidance for schools?" Curran said. "If plans are in motion, when should this committee expect to see a rulemaking? If plans are not in motion then please aid the committee in understanding the board’s legal reasoning for not following administrative rules."
Curran urged the school board to establish a uniform due process.
