DCBA Docket for 8/12/21 - New Eviction Mediation Training Announced

DuPage Bar Association issued the following announcement on Aug. 12

Basic Computer and Security Workshop - The Law Practice Management and Technology Committee holds an informal Zoom meeting for DCBA members at noon on the fourth Friday of every month. The meetings are led by Aaron Brooks, LPMT committee chair and qualify for CLE credit.
The topic for the August workshop will be encryption, including sending and receiving encrypted messages, as well as encryption for storing confidential information.

However, attendees are encouraged to ask any questions they might have about using computers in the practice of law. You can email questions in advance of the meeting to bar@dcba.org.

Basic Computer and Technology WorkshopNew 18th Judicial Circuit Eviction Mediation Program - Mark your calendars for a two-part series of trainings to become an Eviction Mediator for the 18th Judicial Circuit Court. The first session will take place September 9, 2021 from 1:15 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.  This session is for all interested attorneys who do not hold a Mediation Certificate and covers the basic skills required of a mediator and the roles the mediator plays. Our second session will take place September 23, 2021 from 1:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. This session is required of all attorneys wanting to serve in the 18th Circuit as an Eviction Mediator, including those with Mediation Certificates. In Part II, you will learn how to effectively and efficiently mediate residential eviction cases for the 18th Judicial Circuit Court to help tenants and landlords reach agreements and help the court efficiently manage an expected surge of eviction filings.

Call for Pro Bono Award Nominations - The Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Service Award will be presented to one or more lawyers practicing in the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit who have provided outstanding pro bono services to low-income individuals or charitable organizations in the last year. Nominations for these awards are now open and are due September 7, 2021.  Recipients will be honored at the 18th Circuit Pro Bono Breakfast on October 25th.  
Read More and NominateUpcoming Volunteer Opportunity for 2021 DuPage County Expungement Clinic – On Saturday, October 2nd, the DuPage Expungement Clinic will provide free legal assistance to individuals seeking to clear their criminal record. 

Volunteer lawyers (as well as law students, paralegals, or paralegal students) are invited to sign up using the button below. The clinic will be held at the DuPage County Administration Building, 421 North County Farm Road, Wheaton.

If you are an attorney who plans on volunteering, save the date for a training session from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on September 15th. Look for more details in the Docket as we draw closer to the event.

Masking Requirements Return for All Entering the Courthouse - Chief Judge Kenneth L. Popejoy of the 18th Judicial Circuit issued an administrative order requiring all individuals to wear a mask in the courthouse regardless of vaccination status. The order took effect on Tuesday, August 3rd.  To read the full order click the button below.

Parking Garage Access to be Limited During Construction - Beginning Monday August 9th, there will be significant construction on Ring Road on the north side of the County Campus adjacent to the railroad tracks.  The construction will happen in several phases.  The first phase will close the North Entrance and the portion of the road between County Farm and the first stop sign at the 479 parking garage adjacent to the jail. Access to  and egress from the courthouse parking garage will be through the Main or South Entrances.  Please view the map linked below for more detail.
