Downers Grove Park District issued the following announcement on Feb 4.

The Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA) honored the Downers Park District with the 2020 Exceptional Workplace Award at the virtual 2021 IAPD/IPRA Soaring to New Heights Conference on January 28. The Exceptional Workplace Award is administered by IPRA and recognizes park and recreation agencies for their excellence in creating a positive workplace for employees.

The Exceptional Workplace Award is awarded for a five-year term to agencies that meet or exceed 48 criteria, which demonstrate the agency’s commitment to providing a well-balanced life and supportive work culture for employees. The criteria include areas such as physical and mental health and wellness, ongoing training and continuing education, teambuilding, community volunteering, communication, environmental policies, recycling programs, diversity training and inclusion programs.

Bill McAdam, Executive Director of the Downers Grove Park District is proud of the agency’s efforts to create a fun, positive and flexible work environment that provides a wide variety of benefits to support employees both personally and professionally.

“We have built a culture where team members are respected and valued, and where individuals have work-life balance to benefit their well-being. Our employees are our most valuable asset. We are committed to fostering a supportive workplace that develops, empowers, respects and appreciates our employees for their hard work in providing exceptional parks and recreation experiences to the community,” said McAdam.
