City of Elmhurst issued the following announcement on Dec. 29.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory calling for accumulating snow and ice late this afternoon through early Wednesday morning. Snow is expected to begin after 3pm and will pick up in intensity rapidly after starting. Limited visibilities and heavy snow may impact travel. Widespread mixed precipitation will be seen later this evening into overnight with light icing likely.
Please prepare for hazardous travel conditions and use caution while driving. City snow removal crews will be working around the clock to clean and maintain City streets. Following a snowfall, main roads are cleared first, followed by neighborhood streets and other less-traveled roadways. Snow is typically removed from the center to the curb in a series of four passes. Some roads in the City are within the jurisdiction of other agencies to plow, such as Route 83, Butterfield Road, North Avenue and Lake Street. Residents can assist City crews by keeping fire hydrants free of snow piles, and not blowing or shoveling snow onto City streets. Also, please remember not to park on City streets for eight hours following a snowfall of 2” or more.
