Rep. Kathleen Willis (D-Addison) will not be supporting House Speaker Michael Madign for another term.

Madigan’s loss of support comes in the wake of a sprawling bribery scandal. Last week the Illinois General Assembly publicly released a trove of embarrassing emails in which madigan is referred to as “our friend” between a lobbyist and ComEd executives.

“After a lot of thought and discussion with my family, I have come to the decision to let it be known that I will not be voting for Michael J. Madigan as Speaker for the 102nd General Assembly,” Willis wrote.

Willis is joined by other Democrats in the Illinois House. State Rep. Stephanie Kifowit (D-Oswego) is running for the speakership.

“As the House Democratic Caucus Chair, this decision was not made lightly. I feel strongly that our caucus has a lot of hard work to accomplish in the upcoming legislative session and we need to put the distraction that has been created by Representative Madigan behind us and move forward in mending the State of Illinois,” Willis wrote.
