Elmhurst FD responds to 95 fires in 2018

Elmhurst Fire District responded to 873 calls in 2018 - 7.5 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Elmhurst included 95 fires - 42 structure fires, 17 vehicle fires and 36 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $555,322 in fire loss - or about $5,845 per fire.

The department also received 775 false calls, including four malicious calls and 771 other false calls.

The Elmhurst Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 43 active employees and 46 retired or inactive employees, was $2,267,868 positive as of December 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $24,126 for every fire in 2017.
