Wood Dale FPD responds to 74 fires in 2018

Wood Dale Fire Protection District responded to 400 calls in 2018 - 23.1 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Wood Dale included 74 fires - 50 structure fires, six vehicle fires and 18 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $597,470 in fire loss - or about $8,074 per fire.

The department also received 325 false calls, including four malicious calls and 321 other false calls.

The Wood Dale Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $4,826,894 in 2018.

The Wood Dale FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 27 active employees and 42 retired or inactive employees, was $681,342 in debt as of May 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $11,953 for every fire in 2017.
