Illinois State House District 48 issued the following announcement on May 14.
State Rep. Terra Costa Howard, D-Glen Ellyn, is encouraging local high school students to apply for a spot on the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Student Advisory Council for the upcoming 2020-2021 academic year.
“In these challenging times, it’s more important than ever for students to have a voice in making education policy,” Costa Howard said. “This council brings students from around the state together to share their perspectives and experiences, and it gives them a unique opportunity to advocate for themselves and their public school classmates.”
The council is open to all public high school students. Council members participate virtually and also may attend meetings in Springfield. Applications are due at 5 p.m. Friday, May 29. The application form is available online at the ISBE website, at https://www.isbe.net/studentvoices. For more information about the program, please contact [email protected] or [email protected].
“The Illinois State Board of Education Student Advisory Council offers a unique opportunity for young people to work alongside students from other communities and other regions across Illinois,” Costa Howard added. “It would mean so much to our community to have our local students representing us on this council, so I encourage any high school student who is interested in serving as a voice for all Illinois students to apply right away.”
