In DuPage County, the price of water will stay the same for most homes in the area after the DuPage Water Commission decided to keep a flat rate as part of its $130 million budget for the fiscal year 2020-21.

"With everything going on right now, we figured we're going to try to help out," Commission Chairman Jim Zay said during a meeting, according to the Daily Herald

The commission, which provides lake water to 28 DuPage municipalities and agencies, will continue to charge its customers $4.97 per 1,000 gallons.

"We're able to do this because of our financial planning," Zay said during the meeting. "We do have a good amount in reserve."

In the next fiscal year, the commission plans on spending over $106 million to buy water from Chicago and will likely increase its water rate by 2 cents per 1,000 gallons, as it has done annually since January 2015, according to the newspaper.

Municipal customers will receive the flat rate, but the commission said this doesn't mean certain towns won't increase their prices for residents.
