ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 48: Costa Howard Encourages Use of Citizen Utility Board’s Virtual Utility Bill Savings Tool

Illinois State House District 48 issued the following announcement on April 1.

State Rep. Terra Costa Howard, D-Glen Ellyn, is alerting residents to a free virtual utility bill review service offered by the non-profit, non-partisan consumer watchdog group, Citizens Utility Board.

“As we all stay home to help reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the non-profit Citizens Utility Board is reaching out to residents to offer free analysis of their utility bills,” Costa Howard said. “This service can help local residents potentially identify ways in which they are overpaying for basic utilities, as well as steps they can take to reduce their monthly bills.”

To get started, email a copy of your most recent electric, natural gas or landline telephone bill to Aimee Gendusa-English at AEnglish@citizensutilityboard.org, with the subject line “Attn: Virtual Utility Bill Clinic.” Residents may remove their personal information but should include the accountholder’s name and a street address or email address. A CUB specialist will review the bills for unnecessary services or potential sources of overpaying and will notify the consumer of energy-saving options that may be available, as well as possible resources for financial assistance.

“Citizen Utility Board typically hosts in-person clinics so that CUB staff members can explain overcharges in person,” Costa Howard said. “Due to these extraordinary circumstances, CUB is adapting and making this service available virtually. I want to thank CUB for offering this innovative service and for continuing in their mission to help people save money and cut their energy usage.”
