City of Wheaton Fine and Cultural Arts Commission met Oct. 22.
Here is the minutes provided by the commission:
I. Call to Order
President Mike Bock called the meeting to order at 6:06 p.m. Those present: Sarah Antas, Tony Asta, Dee Hicks, Laurie Swanson Oberhelman, Kathy Young. Wheaton North students in attendance were: Kyra Nolen, Sarah Wozniak, Olivia Radowska and Lena Forbes. Also in attendance was Carole Kohout.
II. Agenda Items
Mike Bock moved and Sarah Antas seconded the approval of the agenda. Motion carried. Tony Asta moved and Mike Bock seconded that the September 22 minutes be approved. Motion carried.
III. Agenda Item (carried over from September 22 meeting)
Bill Austin: We will discuss the renaming of Music in the Park and a fitting acknowledgement of his service at next meeting. Mike will look into an engraved pewter mug. Engraving might say. Bill Austin (logo) Wheaton Fine & Cultural Arts Commission Years of Service 2005 – 2019.
Carole Kohout is looking into availability of mug with Commission logo.
Agenda Item
Golf ball at Burning Bush. Mike is making arrangements to pick up from Burning Bush and deliver to City Hall back lobby.

Future projects. Possible events: Fire plug painting. “Love Locks” on chain link fence. “Find the Art Bear”. Frames for pictures at cultural spots in Wheaton. Tree wraps. We will discuss the logistics of these projects at future meeting.

New commissioner. Mike will check files to see if we have any submitted applications. It was suggested that Carole Kohout consider applying for this commission.
Agenda Item
Commission signs. Mike Bock moved and Kathy Young seconded to amend last month’s motion to purchase of two different sized signs of our logo and signature not to exceed $350.
Motion carried. The change is this amendment was the cost change from $300 to $350.
New Business
Carole Kohout presented to the Commission a possible art project for the summer of 2020. Yarn Bombing which would be carried out by Wheaton organizations including: Churches, Scouting/Awana/4Hgroups, schools, retirement communities, art guilds, etc. The project would include wrapping locations with yarn. i.e., parks, downtown lightposts, trash bins, benches. As a whole, the Commission liked the idea, but before making a commitment, the City needs to be contacted for approval.
Adjournment Sarah Antas moved and Laurie Oberhelman seconded that the meeting be adjourned at 6:50. Next meeting scheduled for 11/26. Motion passed.
