4. Petitions and Hearings
During our Board Meeting on Monday, October 21, 2019, Mr. John Kruse addressed the Board of Education concerning his thoughts on Pensions, (local and state) Charter Schools in New Orleans, and online Charter Schools.
5. Recognition of District 88 Successes
A. 88's Best Student
88’s Best Student, Parvathy Nair from Addison Trail, was recognized for the month of October. She was congratulated on her many accomplishments. Parvathy thanked the Board, her teachers, and her family for support.

B. Principals Month
In honor of National Principals Month, Dr. Helton recognized Principals, Mr. Michael Bolden of Addison Trail High School, and Dr. Daniel Krause of Willowbrook High School, for their service and dedication. The villages of Addison, Lombard, Villa Park, and the State of Illinois, and with the District 88 School Board, adopted a proclamation to recognize the principals.
Mrs. Jessen moved and Mr. Finnegan seconded to adopt the resolution of National Principals Month.

6. Educational Focus Item
A. ESSA Update: Preliminary Standardized Test Scores
Dr. Jamie Gourley, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, provided an update on District 88’s preliminary Standardized Assessment Results from the 2018-2019 school year. The data that was presented is a component of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) plan and will be a part of the district and school report cards when released at the end of October. This presentation included preliminary SAT, ACCESS for ELs, and Illinois Science Assessment Results.
Dr. Helton spoke and provided information on the data that Dr. Gourley presented and how the benchmarks for the data was determined for the state and nationally.

A. Tax Levy 2019
Mr. Edward Hoster, Chief Financial Officer, presented information regarding the tax levy process. He also introduced the 2019 Tax Levy Schedule and said he would provide a resolution for the estimated tax levy for the Board to adopt during its next meeting, November 18, 2019.

ATHLETIC UPDATE:
Cross Country - Participated in the WSC meet this past Saturday. 3 Blazers took home All-Conference honors. Dylan Moran placed 3rd in the Boys Varsity meet while Viviana Sanfillippo and Maddie Ford took 8th and 11th place respectively in the girls'meet.
Boys Soccer - Finished in 2nd place in conference (5-1) after a tough 2-1 loss at undefeated Morton on 10/10. The team bounced back to beat 3rd ranked Mount Carmel the following Saturday. They look to continue their winning way in the IHSA Regional on Tuesday at St Charles North at 5:00 p.m.
Girls Volleyball - 2nd place in the conference at 4-1. Took 6th place out of 24 teams in the Maine West invite last Saturday. The Blazers host the IHSA volleyball regional on Tuesday, 10/29, and the championship on Thursday, 10/31. AT will play the 6:30 game on Tuesday, 10/29 vs. Wheaton North.
Willowbrook
NMSQT TESTING - Last Wednesday, 452 junior students completed the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and pre-SAT. We had a 94% attendance rate for the testers. The students were in full Warrior Code demonstration being respectful, responsible, and engaged throughout the testing.
MUSIC CONCERTS & EVENTS - The Music Department continued their Fall series of concerts and events, last Thursday with our annual Strings Festival. The Choirs close out the series with their Choir Invitational on Tuesday, October 29.
DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI/STAFF RECOGNITION DINNER - We are excited to recognize our newest Distinguished Alumni and Staff at our annual recognition dinner on Wednesday, October 23, at The Carlisle, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
ATHLETICS
The football team won last weekend, bringing their record to 7-1, clinching the West Suburban Gold Conference title for three years in a row.
The Girls Tennis team finished in 4th place in the West Suburban Conference Championships. Congratulations to our first doubles team Maddie Brown and Ellie King, on their first-place finish in the conference. Best of luck to the Warriors as they compete in the IHSA Sectionals this week at Lyons Township.
Congratulations to the Girls Volleyball team on their conference victory over Proviso East. Come out next Thursday as the Warriors host their Senior Night against West Chicago.
Varsity boys’ soccer won their first-round IHSA playoff game against Wheaton Warrenville South and take on St Charles East tomorrow in Round 2.

Mrs. Cain stated on Friday, October 25, 2019, at Addison Trail High School, the District 88 Foundation is hosting the Test Drive A Ford fundraiser. Mrs. Cain also shared that members of the DuPage High School District 88 Learning Community School Safety Team received an Award of Excellence, along with Sharon Kucik, who received an Award of Merit during the Illinois State Board of Education Those Who Excel banquet on Saturday, October 19, 2019.
