DuPage High School District 88 Board of Education met Oct. 7.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

1. Call To Order

Mrs. Cain, President of the Board, called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

Members Present: Mrs. Cain, Mr. Edmier, Ms. Finnegan, Mr. Irvin, Mrs. Jessen, Ms. Knauf, Mr. Olson

Members Absent: None.

Others Present: Dr. Helton, Mr. Hoster, Mrs. Barbanente, Dr. Gourley, Dr. Lenaghan, Mr. Domeracki, Ms. Brink, Mrs. Niewinski, Mr. Daly, Mrs. Petrbok, and Community.

5. Discussion Items Requiring No Action*

A. Financial Reports:

1) List of Bills - September 2019

Mr. Edward Hoster, Chief Financial Officer, recommended the List of Bills for September 2019, in the amount of $5,939,166.28, be approved.

B. Shared Services Report

Mr. Edward Hoster, Chief Financial Officer, recommended the Shared Services Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2019, be approved.

C. Disposal List

Mr. Ryan Domeracki, Director of Business Services, recommended the Fall Disposal 2019 List be approved.

Ms. Knauf asked if the items are offered to other taxing bodies. Mr. Domeracki stated not at this time.

6. Separate Action Items

A. List of Bills Exceeding $5,000.00

Mrs. Jessen moved, and Ms. Finnegan seconded to approve the List of Bills Exceeding $5,000.00.

B. Construction Project Pay Application #1 – Culvert/Long Jump Project

Mrs. Jessen moved, and Ms. Knauf seconded to approve the Construction Project Pay Application #1 for the culvert/long jump project.

7. Information/Discussion Items

A. ESSA Update-Performance Indicators

Dr. Jamie Gourley, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, provided an update on District 88's preliminary report card data from the 2018-2019 school year. The data that was presented is a component of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) plan and will be a part of the district and school report cards when released at the end of October. The presentation included preliminary data on the indicators of freshman on-track, graduation, and student attendance rate.

Mrs. Jessen commented that the number of low-income student graduation rate is still holding and commended the staff.

Ms. Knauf asked why the chronic absenteeism rate is high, and the reason for this. Dr. Gourley replied, stating that the data provided includes the number of students that are homebound in addition to excused absences for family obligations or vacations. Also, measurements of support are in place for students with chronic unexcused absences.

B. Freedom of Information Request

The following Freedom of Information request was received and fulfilled: On September 05, 2019, DuPage High School District 88 received a request via email from Mr. Jake Wagman, Shield Political Research, LLC, for the following information through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA):

• All releasable documents in the personnel folder for Froylan Jimenez, who was previously a teacher in the district.

8. School Recognition - Assistant Principals

Addison Trail

Congratulations to the following music students who have been selected to participate in the ILMEA All-District Ensembles!!!

Our fall play -ANON(ymous) is scheduled for this weekend, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7 p.m. and also Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Also, this Saturday, Oct 12th, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. is our annual Kermes Food Festival hosted by our Interact Club. You can combine the two events. Come for the play and stay for KERMES or attend KERMES first and stay for the play!

October 7 through October 11th is COLLEGE APPLICATION WEEK, and our Guidance Counselors will be available to help seniors work on applications during lunch periods in Blazer Room.

Tuesday, October 15 to Friday, October 18 - we will celebrate Italian Heritage Week and close the week with our Italian Club students hosting a concert featuring the Four C Notes at 8 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door.

ATHLETIC UPDATE:

Boys Golf - Addison Trail hosted the IHSA Boys golf regional today at the preserve at Oak Meadows. Three AT golfers qualified for regional competition on Monday, October 14th at Sportsman’s Park GC: Jimmy Cerven, Elijah Aquino, and Peter Markopolous.

Boys Soccer - 11-3-1 on the season (3-0 in conference 1st place tie). Continue conference play tomorrow at DGS at 6:30 p.m.

Willowbrook

On Thursday, September 26, our WB Counselors hosted Senior Financial Aid Parent Night. A Financial Aid Administrator from Elmhurst College came and presented information about the financial aid process to over 110 families. This presentation focused on types of financial aid, how to apply for financial aid, completing the FAFSA and financial aid award letters amongst some of the topics.

Parent/Teacher Conferences were held at Willowbrook last week on October 2nd and 3rd. Over 5,000 conferences were held during the two days.

On October 6th, the Rx Abuse Leadership Initiative of Illinois, partnered with Code 3, brought the Rails Cares Educational Trailer to Willowbrook. The trailer is a tour of a teenage bedroom that educates parents about possible warning signs of drug abuse or misuse.

ATHLETICS-

• ATWB Girls Swimming - Competed in the Evanston Invite this past weekend and placed in Sixth Place Overall. The team will take on Proviso West this week in a WSC Meet.

• Special Olympics Volleyball Team qualified for the Special Olympics State Tournament October 26 and 27 at Harlem High School.

• Boys Golf - Finished in 3rd Place at the WSC Championships last week. The team competed in the IHSA regional today.

• Girls Golf - Finished in 7th Place at the WSC Championships. The team will compete in the IHSA Regional on Wednesday.

• Boys Soccer - will continue with their WSC schedule this week and take on Hinsdale South.

12. Closed Session Meeting

Mr. Edmier moved, and Mrs. Jessen seconded to go into closed session to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine its validity. In addition, to discuss the security procedures and the use of personnel and equipment to respond to an actual, a threatened, or a reasonably potential danger to the safety of employees, students, staff or public property, and collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees. The Board went into closed session at 7:58 pm.

The Board returned to open session at 10:05 pm.
