Addison School District 4 Board of Education met Oct. 24.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

Welcome Dr. Anthony Palmisano, Superintendent of School District 45, welcomed the four compact districts commending their collaborative efforts and sharing of ideas to help and support all students.

Call to Order Mrs. Donna Craft Cain called the meeting to order at 7:20 p.m.

1. Pledge of Allegiance

Mrs. Craft Cain led the attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance.

3. Program: Social and Emotional Learning

Ms. Jean Barbanente, School District 88 Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, Ms. Keri Karpman, School District 4 Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, Mrs. Jennifer Sabourin, School District 48 Director of Student Services, and Ms. Diana Brown, School District 45 Director of Student Services, co-presented on the topics of Social and Emotional Learning, Trauma Informed Schools, and Restorative Practices.

The co-presenters invited the attendees to participate in a group activity. Each table shared what they believed were the top five skills students need to be successful adults.

The co-presenters shared that healthy social and emotional skills are better indicators of adult success than academic achievement. They defined and discussed direct Social and Emotional Learning instruction, the development of Trauma Informed Schools, Restorative Practices, and the positive impact these initiatives have on student behavior and learning.

At 7:53 p.m., a motion was made by Mr. Cuny and seconded by Mrs. Craft Cain, to adjourn the Joint Board of Education Meeting.
