City of Wheaton issued the following announcement on Feb. 22.

On Monday, Feb. 25, crews are scheduled to turn on the traffic signals and pedestrian crossings at the following intersections in downtown Wheaton:

  • Front Street & West Street
  • Front Street & Main Street
  • Liberty Drive & West Street
  • Liberty Drive & Main Street
Temporary stop signs have been in place at these intersections while crews installed new traffic signals and related infrastructure as part of the Downtown Streetscape project.

Commuters and pedestrians are advised to use extra caution as motorists become re-accustomed to these intersections. Once the signals are running and the temporary signs are removed, all vehicles and pedestrians should follow the signals and posted signs. Please be careful when driving near train crossings, and never stop on the tracks. Wheaton Police will be onsite as traffic signals are turned on to assist with traffic flow.
