Naperville Park District issued the following announcement on Nov. 27.

Naperville senior citizens and those in need who may find themselves alone for Christmas this year are invited to the 35th annual Christmas luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, hosted by the Naperville Y and the Naperville Park District.

The Chicago Marriott Naperville, located at 1801 N. Naper Blvd., will host the luncheon. Last year, approximately 160 people attended, enjoying the company of others and a festive meal, served by 40 community volunteers and made possible by generous donors. Special features of the annual event include a sing-along led by pianist Jeanne Ripsky, a visit from Santa coordinated by Naperville Bank and Trust, games of Bingo led by Naperville Park District and centerpieces made by students from School District 204.

“When we see the number of volunteers on Christmas Day and the support from community donors it helps us to remember the true meaning of Christmas,” said Naperville YMCAs Executive Director R. J. Bartels. “The Y feels grateful and blessed to have been part of this special event for more than 30 years.”

This year is the ninth year of the Park District’s involvement with the event.

“The Christmas Luncheon has become a tradition that brings cheer and a sense of community to many who might otherwise be alone,” said Park District Executive Director Ray McGury.

One of the participants in 2017 echoed that thought in a thank you note to the Y, saying that she appreciates “all the sweet smiles and kind hearts that give so generously of a portion of their holiday. We really loved it!”

Interested seniors and families in need must make reservations by Dec. 17 by calling Polly Rhodes at 630-527-6599 and leaving a message with guests’ names and the total number in their party.
