WOOD DALE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT: Wood Dale Fire Protection District Ranked in Top 4%

Fire 11

Wood Dale Fire Protection District issued the following announcement on Nov. 9.

The Wood Dale Fire Protection District has received notification that its Public Protection Classification (PPC) has been lowered from a Class 3 rating to a Class 2 rating by the Insurance Services Offices (ISO), placing Wood Dale in the top 4% of the entire country out of more than 40,000 communities.

ISO evaluates communities and their fire departments across the nation, assigning them a PPC rating from 1-10, with 1 being the highest possible score. Wood Dale’s Class 2/2Y rating also places in the top 100 ISO rated communities within Illinois. What this means for Wood Dale residents and business owners is the potential for lowered insurance premiums, in addition to the comfort and safety of knowing their Fire Protection District is top rated.

The ISO evaluation and PPC rating is based on the following three criteria:

• Fire department operations, training, and deployment including fire apparatus, equipment testing, personnel training, and the ability of the department to place an adequate number of trained personnel on the scene of a building fire.

• Emergency communications on the ability of the dispatching agency to answer a call for assistance, process the information and alert the responding fire department.

• Water supply system for its ability to provide an adequate amount of water at the correct volume and pressure for a building fire, along with maintenance of records verifying water flows and pressures are tested on a regular basis.

The ISO Class 2 rating goes into effect February 1, 2019. At that time, ISO will send out notifications to insurance carriers regarding the achievement. Homeowners and businesses within the Wood Dale Fire Protection District should contact their insurance providers regarding the improved Class 2 ISO rating as it may result in reduced insurance rates.
