Naperville Fire Department issued the following announcement on Oct. 1.
At 02:46 a.m. on Monday, October 1, 2018 Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from a resident reporting a house on fire in his neighborhood. PSAP immediately dispatched a general alarm for the structure fire which brought a total of 2 engines,1 heavy rescue squad, 3 ladder trucks, 2 ambulances, 1 incident commander and 1 safety officer to the scene (24 Personnel).
The Naperville Police Department arrived on the scene prior to fire department reporting fire showing from the roof and possibly a senior resident inside. Squad 8 arrived on the scene within 6 minutes of the initial call and 2 minutes after NPD, identified a single-story home with fire showing from the roof line. Incident command was established by squad 8 and crews initiated an immediate search for the occupant, moving aggressively to the interior of the home while positioning a fire attack hose line to protect search crews. Squad 8 and NPD assisted the occupant from the home unharmed within 1 minute of arrival. Interior attack crews extinguished the visible fire on the exterior roof line of the home and transitioned to the interior of the home to search for hidden fire. Fire department shift commanders arrived on the scene, assumed command and safety and requested an additional ambulance to the scene. Crews located fire within the attic of the home and continued to extinguish the fire as crews assisted to gain access to the attic space from below. The fire was deemed under control within 30 minutes while crews continued to work for the next 60 to 90 minutes locating and extinguishing all hidden fire within the home. Additional crews assisted with establishing a water supply, removing smoke by ventilating and positioning secondary attack lines. Salvage and overhaul activities were conducted to limit further damage to property and contents of the home.
Additional assistance was provided by the Naperville Police Department, Naperville Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) Team, Naperville Electric Department and The American Red Cross. The home was declared uninhabitable due to smoke and fire damage. The resident was reunited with family members who arrived on the scene and will provide housing.

There were no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Naperville Fire Investigation Team.
