Glenbard East's John Walters named Chicago Bears High School Coach of the Week
Glenbard East football coach John Walters was recently named Chicago Bears High School Coach of the Week for Week 4 after leading his undefeated Rams (4-0) to a hard-fought 17-13 victory over then-undefeated West Aurora.
The win marked the first time Glenbard East has started 4-0 to begin a season in more than five decades.
According to the Daily Herald, as part of his award, Walters will be invited to the Bears Dec. 16 home game at Soldier Field against the rival Green Bay Packers. He will also take part in a pre-game photo on the field with other 2018 Coach of the Week and High School All-Star recipients.
The honorees will also receive a framed certificate signed by Bears general manager Ryan Pace, head coach Matt Nagy and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
Wheeling’s Michael Best was tabbed as Week 4’s Chicago Bears High School All-Star. The senior quarterback threw for 374 yards and five touchdowns in a 45-42 come-from-behind win against Vernon Hills.
The Dec. 16 pre-game festivities will also include a moment of recognition for all eight IHSA football state champion teams.
