The City of Elmhurst is improving York Street by resurfacing the roadway from First Street to just south of North Avenue. The purpose of the project is to improve safety and traffic operations for motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists that use York Street. The project will begin the week of September 17th and will take approximately two months to complete.

All of the crosswalks within the project boundaries will be stamped with a brick pattern and colored red with pavement marking. The pavement markings will improve safety by making the crosswalks more visible and add to the aesthetics of Downtown Elmhurst.

The working hours for the road improvement will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with the exception of pavement milling, level binder and asphalt surface operations, which will be performed overnight from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. to minimize traffic disruptions during the day.

Moving lane closures will occur during construction. However, at least one travel lane will remain in place during the entire project in all current traffic directions. On-street parking will be impacted temporarily and may be limited throughout the construction on one side of the street at a time. Additional parking is available at the 4 parking decks located in the City Centre.
