U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) has taken the lead in fundraising in his district, with almost $1 million raised during the second quarter for the upcoming election.
Representing Illinois’ 6th Congressional District, which includes areas of Cook, DuPage, Lake, Kane and McHenry counties, Roskam has taken in more than $4 million for the upcoming battle against Democratic challenger Sean Casten of Downers Grove, according to a release from Roskam's office.
In the 2018 Republican primary, Roskam ran unopposed in the 6th District race, receiving 56,544 votes, according to Ballotpedia.org. In the Democratic primary, Casten received only 19,774 votes, barely 3 percent more than his closest challenger.
A July 16 article in the Chicago Sun-Times noted that Roskam is among several Illinois Republicans who are besting their Democratic rivals in terms of fundraising. At the time of the article, Casten had $646,749 in cash on hand, whereas Roskam had just over $2.3 million.
