Villa Park FD responds to 64 fires in 2017

Villa Park Fire Department responded to 255 calls in 2017 - 22 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Villa Park included 64 fires - 43 structure fires, five vehicle fires and 16 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $409,800 in fire loss - or about $6,403 per fire.

The department also received 190 false calls, including six malicious calls and 184 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, four fire service member were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Villa Park Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 26 active employees and 23 retired or inactive employees, was $1,056,841 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $18,541 for every fire in 2016.
