Hinsdale FD responds to 35 fires in 2017

Hinsdale Fire Department responded to 495 calls in 2017 - 5.5 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Hinsdale included 35 fires - 11 structure fires, 12 vehicle fires and 12 other fires. The fire department also responded to four calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $269,400 in fire loss - or about $7,697 per fire.

The department also received 456 false calls, including two malicious calls and 454 other false calls.

The Hinsdale Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 22 active employees and 28 retired or inactive employees, was $1,283,589 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $41,406 for every fire in 2016.
