Clock is ticking to apply for Lombard's Youth Leadership Program

Hs 08

Civic-minded high school students in the Lombard area are invited to apply for a slot in the 2018 Youth Leadership Program sponsored by the Village of Lombard.

Students selected for this educational opportunity will participate in three presentation sessions in February, a village press release said.

“The goal of the program is to provide the opportunity for high-school-aged Lombard students to learn about the inner workings of their local government,” the release said. “It also allows the students to see how each department works.”

The teachable moments will cover the finance, community development, police, fire and public works departments, as well as a tour of the city manager’s office.

The first session will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 1 at Village Hall, 255 E. Wilson Ave., with the second session being held from 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 8 at the fire station at 50 E. Wilson Ave.

For the final meeting on Feb. 15, students will gather at Village Hall from 6:30-7 p.m. and attend the village board meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Participating students will be receiving certificates of completion, the release said.

Students wishing to participate in the program can download an application at http://www.villageoflombard.org/youthleadership and submit it in person to Village Hall or send it by email to meadea@villageoflombard.org. The deadline for applying is 4:30 p.m. Jan. 15.
