Report and Recommendation:

Approval of Purchase of a 2018 Full Size Ford Transit Van

Discussion:

Mr. York reported that Public Works currently has a 2001 Dodge van in very bad shape

and needs to be replaced. It is currently being used as a back-up mode of

transportation on a limited basis. They at first considered a dump truck, but realized it

wasn’t that practical. Ald. Jakab asked about getting a pick-up truck that could be used

for plowing. Mr. York responded that they currently have enough snow plow vehicles.

He explained the proposed uses for having a van which include keeping certain

expensive equipment enclosed. When asked about employees driving city vehicles, Mr.

York stated that all employees including seasonal have a background check performed

which include motor vehicles. Chief Vesta stated that there is a process the Police

Department undergoes through Human Resources and the Secretary of State which

allows the Police Department to submit a batch to check driver license statuses. Ald. R.

Wesley asked about checking these more frequently. Chief stated that he would need

to review the SOS guidelines on how often this can be done.

Vote:

Ald. R. Wesley made a motion, seconded by Ald. Sorrentino, to approve the purchase

of a 2018 full size Ford Transit Van in the not-to-exceed amount of $36,269.00. A roll
