Naperville FD responds to 212 fires in 2016

Naperville Fire Department responded to 264 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the DuPage Policy Journal.

The calls in Naperville included 212 fires - 96 structure fires, 25 vehicle fires and 80 other fires. The fire department also responded to 11 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $2,434,503 in fire loss - or about $11,484 per fire.

The department also received two false calls, including 50 malicious calls and 2 other false calls.

The calls resulted in three civilian fire-related injuries.

The Naperville Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 192 active employees and 93 retired or inactive employees, was $8,248,516 in debt as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $38,908 for every fire in 2016.
