The City of St. Charles recently began upgrading its infrastructure with a new public parking deck slated for construction at Illinois and 1st streets, in its core downtown district across from Fox Island Square.
City officials estimate that the project will take approximately five business days, with work set to be finished by the end of this week. Large pre-formed panels will be delivered by a semi-truck and hoisted by crane over the site. Delivery access is planned via Route 31 to Illinois Street; while no road closings are anticipated, a flagger will be stationed at relevant posts to expedite local traffic.
The project is one of several phases to fall under the First Street Redevelopment program umbrella, first approved by the City Council in March 2015 and now set to come to fruition. The parking deck is part of Phase 3, bordered by First and Illinois streets, Main Street (IL Route 64), Prairie Street, 2nd Street (IL Route 31) and the Fox River.
The project envisions three mixed-use buildings along with the 110-space parking facility. The parking deck will be available for public use; individual business tenants will offer private parking underneath the buildings. The site will include a riverfront walkway and an eastside plaza.
