Magazine names DuPage No. 1 U.S. county for upward mobility

Dupage

American City and County magazine named DuPage County the nation’s No. 1 county for upward mobility -- the only county in the Midwest to make the list's top 10.

The magazine used the Harvard University Equality of Opportunity Project to set criteria for the rankings. The project’s findings identified DuPage as America’s top county for earning potential, especially for the demographic of disadvantaged youth.

“We are honored that American City and County recognizes DuPage County as the best county in the nation in terms of upward mobility,” DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin said. “We are proud to showcase DuPage as home to a thriving business community, with a well-educated workforce, safe streets, low unemployment, and abundant and varied cultural amenities which make it an attractive place to live, work and raise a family. Dedication to family, neighbors and our community is a central focus and one we celebrate here in DuPage.”

“This honor highlights everything taking place in DuPage County and what makes it a great place to live, work and raise a family” Jim Healy, a County Board member representing District 5 (Aurora, Naperville, Lisle), said. “This honor is only made possible by our residents and everything they do for our communities.”
