Following a September Board of Trustees meeting, plans are being made at the College of Du Page to cut tuition by $5 per credit hour and the school’s property tax levy by 5 percent in its 2016 budget.
“We owe it to the taxpayers, the students, and all the stakeholders in the College of Du Page to be respectful and judicious in how we spend taxpayer money,” Board of Trustees Chairman Kathy Hamilton said. “It’s also important that we make an education at the College of DuPage accessible to more people, and we can do that by reducing the cost of tuition.”
The College of DuPage has the second-highest cost per credit hour of any community college in Illinois, according to state data.
Hamilton said these cuts are possible because the college had raised its cash reserves from $67 million in 2009 to $178 million in 2014.
