State Rep. Kathleen Willis (D-Dist. 77) hosted the second annual Community Resource Fair on Saturday in the Melrose Park Village Hall gym.
“Though I’m excited to see the community come out to attend this event, what’s more important is that residents learn about programs that are out there that can provide some assistance,” Willis said. “It’s important to bring community nonprofits, businesses and organizations together to collaborate and inform the community about their missions.”
Participants in this year's fair included representatives from Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s office, Secretary of State Jesse White’s office, the I-Cash program administered by the state treasurer’s office and AARP Illinois.
The event also featured free health screenings. More than 30 local and state agencies were present at the fair to provide information and services.
“I didn’t realize that all these community organizations are out here doing all of this great work," local resident Liliana Ortiz said. “I think it’s great that this event brings all these groups together so people can learn first-hand about what’s out there.”
