Legislation introduced last month by Illinois U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Dist. 6), to mandate that a special inspector general watch over the progress of the Affordable Care Act's implementation, has gained the backing of major conservative groups such as Americans for Prosperity, Americans for Tax Reform and the Galen Institute.

The Special Inspector General to Monitor Affordable Care (SIGMA) legislation also has the support of the entire House Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee, of which Roskam is chairman; Republican Study Committee Chairman Bill Flores (R-TX); and House Freedom Caucus Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH).

“President Obama’s signature health care law was passed deceptively, under the cloak of secrecy and through backroom deals," Jordan said. "A special inspector general would be able to thoroughly review Obamacare and provide oversight of how it’s being implemented."

Flores agreed.

“Since its inception, Obamacare has resulted in millions of Americans losing their health care plans, spiking premiums and untold government waste through broken insurance exchanges run by unelected bureaucrats," Flores said. "The deeper we dig into Obamacare, the more problems we find."

Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) said Obamacare was filled with "broken promises."

"It seems the Obama administration is making up the implementation of Obamacare as it goes along," Hensarling said. "A special inspector general for Obamacare will help supplement the vigorous congressional oversight taking place, providing yet another tool to hold the Obama administration accountable and protect American taxpayers.”

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) said Americans "deserve transparency and accountability from their government"

"They have a right to know the truth about Obamacare and the law’s cost to taxpayers," Gowdy said.
