The April edition of Village Almanac reports on Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner's proposal to reduce the local share of the Local Government Distributive Funding (LGDF) by 50 percent in an effort to repair the state budget.
LGDF has been a vital revenue source for municipalities like Bloomingdale since the state first implemented the income tax in 1969, and municipalities rely on the funding source to provide public services like police, fire, water and sewer treatment, infrastructure repair and construction and snow removal.
If Rauner's proposal is approved at the state level, Bloomingdale's revenue will decrease by $1.1 million, a reduction that could severely impact residents.
Residents of Bloomingdale are encouraged to contact their state legislators to express their concerns. If interested, residents may also send their legislators a letter at www.ProtectMyTown.com, requesting LGDF remains intact.
