College of DuPage to elect 3 new trustees April 17

Cod

On the heels of being called out for its top administrators’ extravagant spending of taxpayer dollars, the College of DuPage will elect three new board of trustees members on April 17.

Twelve candidates are on the ballot for the three open seats on the college’s board of trustees.

Charles Bernstein of Naperville, Frank Napolitano of Bloomingdale and Deanne Mazzochi of Elmhurst are running together under what they call a "Clean Slate" platform. The platform criticizes college President Robert Breuder's performance and seeks to reduce his $763,000 severance package.

Other candidates in the election include Claire Ball of Addison, Dan Bailey of Wheaton, Dave Carlin of Naperville, incumbent Nancy Svoboda of Downers Grove, incumbent Kim Savage of Darien, Joseph M. Wozniak of Naperville, Matt Gambs of Naperville, Sandra Pihos of Glen Ellyn and Roger Kempa of Darien.

The publicly funded college was subpoenaed on March 30 to surrender financial records after the Chicago Tribune ran a story saying officials at the school, including Breuder, allegedly spent more than $190,000 on nearly 500 occasions at the school’s fine dining restaurant since 2011, including purchasing a large amount of expensive alcohol.
