State Sen. Dan Kotowski (D-28) wants special interest, rainy day funds to be used for parents and children in need under the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP).

Speaking before the Senate Appropriations 1 Committee, Kotowski said the funding is necessary for the neediest families in the state.

"The parents of these children are doing the right thing by working to support their families," Kotowski said. "They need funding now to allow them to go to work and ensure their children are in a safe, secure environment. I continue to strongly encourage the governor to look at the entire budget including the hundreds of millions of dollars in special interest rainy day funds to pay for this program."

The CCAP is facing an approximately $300 million shortfall.

The Senate and Gov. Bruce Rauner's budget team are working together to reach the most opportune solution.

"I am confident we will find a bipartisan agreement in the best interests of the parents, children and taxpayers," Kotowski said.
