Special patrols will be conducted by the Naperville Police as part of a Super Bowl Weekend crackdown on drunk drivers and seat belt law violators.
"Drunk driving is completely preventable," Sergeant Derek Zook of the Naperville Police Department Traffic Unit said. "All it takes is a little planning. We want fans to remember that it's a choice, and the choice is simple. Drink or drive-but never do both. If you do, you will be arrested.
"If you plan on drinking alcohol while cheering on your team, pass your keys to a sober driver before the Super Bowl party begins. ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.’ Motorists also can anticipate tickets for ignoring seat belt laws.”
The increased enforcement will be funded with federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The Naperville Police recommend designating a sober driver and stopping friends from driving drunk as two simple steps to avoid tragedy or arrest. Other tips from the Naperville Police including calling a taxi or using mass transit to get home safely, reporting drunk drivers to law enforcement, spending the night where the activity is held and buckling seat belts while driving.
