Applications are currently being accepted by DuPage County Coroner Richard A. Jorgensen for the deputy coroner position.
Candidates for the deputy coroner position will perform work under general supervision of moderate mental and physical difficulty while conducting investigations into the manner and cause of death of any person whose death occurs under the jurisdiction of the coroner within the boundaries of DuPage County.
Duly appointed and qualified deputy coroners may perform any and all coroner’s duties in the name of the coroner, as well as acts of such deputies held to be acts of the coroner, kindling conducting investigations including, but not limited to, deaths that are sudden or of a violent nature, fetal deaths, crimes against nature, and deaths that are suspicious, mysterious or obscure or where the attending physician’s written opinion states that the cause is undetermined.
Additional duties include forwarding samples and specimens to a certified toxicology laboratory for analysis, ordering an autopsy and/or X-rays as needed, processing specimens according to established directions, including proper labeling, sealing and securing, and communicating with funeral homes at the family’s direction to arrange for removal of decedent from scene, hospital or morgue.
Candidates for the position, which has a starting salary of $40,390 with a benefits package through the County of DuPage, should have a good knowledge of modern methods and practices of death investigation and good knowledge of the geographic details of DuPage County.
