Statewide test results: 52 percent of Westfield failed English language arts
About 48 percent of Westfield Middle School students passed annual English language arts assessments in 2017 and 52 percent of students failed, according to a DuPage Policy Journal analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.
The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, is administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards.
According to Westfield Middle School English language scores, about 37 percent met expectations and 11 percent exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category are considered to be most ready to move on to the next level and are most prepared for college or work.
Another 29 percent approached expectations, while 18 percent partially met expectations and 5 percent did not meet them. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.
Test results at Westfield Middle School, which enrolled 433 students in 2017, surpassed state averages.
Statewide, 37 percent of students passed the test and 63 percent failed.
Of students statewide who passed, only five percent 'exceeded' expectations.
