Illinois officials report 8,791 coronavirus deaths, with 301,541 confirmed cases
There have been 301,541 confirmed coronavirus cases in Illinois as of October 4, with 8,791 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).
Chicago (81,702 cases) and Cook County (66,679 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,976, while Cook County recorded 2,280 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 5,886,418, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 60,658 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 141,818 were male and 154,666 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,724, while female deaths stood at 4,066.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 4,221 Asians, 4,221 whites, 2,243 African-Americans, 1,756 Hispanics, and 187 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
