Illinois officials report 8,186 coronavirus deaths, with 252,353 confirmed cases
There have been 252,353 confirmed coronavirus cases in Illinois as of September 8, with 8,186 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).
Chicago (73,828 cases) and Cook County (58,244 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,897, while Cook County recorded 2,201 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 4,478,710, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 50,327 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 118,203 were male and 129,189 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,415, while female deaths stood at 3,766.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,788 Asians, 3,788 whites, 2,163 African-Americans, 1,653 Hispanics, and 210 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
