House candidate Trussell on inflation: Broader economic recovery remains slow despite lower prices
Illinois House candidate Stephanie Trussell said that while prices on essentials like gas and eggs have decreased, broader economic recovery remains slow. She drew a comparison to rebuilding after destruction.
"Gas and egg prices have been reduced," said Trussell. "The focus remains on prices that have not gone down yet. You can burn down a house in an hour but it takes months to rebuild it. How many houses have been rebuilt under Newsome's regime?"
Inflation pressures have eased nationally, but many Americans still face elevated costs for housing, insurance, and groceries. According to recent reports, while some prices—like eggs and gasoline—have fallen, economic sentiment remains mixed ahead of the 2026 election cycle.
Gas prices nationwide dropped roughly 12% in 2025 as global oil supply increased and domestic refining capacity expanded. Egg prices fell more than 20% from record 2023 highs due to stabilized feed costs and recovery from avian flu outbreaks.
California continues to struggle with housing shortages under Governor Gavin Newsom's administration. Only about 120,000 new homes were built in 2025, far below the state’s 250,000-unit annual goal, contributing to high rents and slow affordability progress.
Trussell is a Republican candidate from Illinois, radio host, and conservative commentator. Known for her advocacy on affordability, public safety, and government reform, she was the 2022 GOP nominee for lieutenant governor.
