Gov. candidate Dabrowski in Downers Grove on property taxes: ‘Illinoisans need a property tax break'
Ted Dabrowski, Illinois gubernatorial candidate, said he would push for a phased-in 1% cap on property taxes tied to assessed home values and target bureaucratic waste if elected, speaking at a Jan. 17 meet-and-greet at 3 Corners Grill & Tap in Downers Grove.
"Illinoisans need a property tax break," said Dabrowski, Gubernatorial Candidate. "I'll pursue the phase-in of a 1% property tax cap on a home's assessed value – just like they have in Indiana. To make that work, we'll push for cuts in Illinois' massive bureaucratic waste and bloat – e.g. too many units of local government."
According to Dabrowski, the venue provided an opportunity to discuss property tax relief as a critical issue affecting homeowners and families. The location, known for hosting community gatherings, served as a platform for Dabrowski to engage with constituents and outline his policy priorities.
Dabrowski referenced Indiana's "circuit breaker" system as a model for Illinois. This system caps a homeowner’s property tax liability at a fixed percentage of the assessed value and restricts collections beyond that point. He suggested that Illinois should implement a similar phased-in cap while maintaining spending restraint to ensure local services are funded without increasing the tax burden on homeowners.
On his campaign website, Dabrowski emphasizes affordability, taxpayer interests, and structural reforms aimed at empowering residents and local communities. His biography highlights his background in policy work and private-sector leadership, along with personal experiences tied to immigration and aspirations to enhance opportunities for working families in Illinois.
