DuPage state reps calls on College of DuPage Board President to conduct finance audit

A bipartisan group of Illinois state representatives sent a letter on Thursday to College of DuPage Board Chairwoman Erin Birt on Thursday seeking an audit of the College of DuPage.

The letter, which calls for a performance audit of the college’s finances and its board of trustees, follows approval granted last month of a controversial severance package for college president Robert Breuder worth more than $750,000.

The text of the letter appears below.

Dear Chairwoman Birt:

Recently you forwarded a letter to the State Auditor General, Bill Holland, requesting that he perform an audit of the College of DuPage. We appreciate your willingness to engage in this review. Presently, there are three House resolutions, which would allow for an audit of the College of DuPage. In order for this to occur, however, we need the college to enter into an agreement that they will not only pay for the audit, but also comply with the rules of the audit as given by the Auditor General. We would ask at this time that you confirm in writing the willingness of the College of DuPage to agree to these conditions. The most likely language of the audit parameters can be found in House Resolutions 55, as amended and 162.

The State Auditor General is an independent, neutral authority. Its investigation is an important step in restoring confidence to all concerned taxpayers and residents.

Please provide your confirmation of these terms within seven days’ time so the resolutions can be appropriately addressed. Should you wish to discuss this matter, please give us a call.
