In 2024, Darien Police Department addressed 598 offenses, as reported by the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS).

This amounted to roughly two offenses daily during the year.

Among the types of crimes monitored by NIBRS, simple assaults were the most frequent, with 120 incidents reported in 2024.

The NIBRS aims to provide detailed and contextual crime statistics. Previously, reporting systems would record only the most serious offense per incident. For example, if a case involved homicide, aggravated assault, and theft, only homicide would be counted in official crime statistics.

This system supports law enforcement agencies at the local, state, and federal levels.
