Bloomingdale FPD responds to 134 fires in 2017
Bloomingdale Fire Protection District responded to 704 calls in 2017 - 9 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.
The calls in Bloomingdale included 134 fires - 61 structure fires, 16 vehicle fires and 57 other fires. The fire department also responded to five calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.
In all, the department saw $554,274 in fire loss - or about $4,136 per fire.
The department also received 565 false calls, including 18 malicious calls and 547 other false calls.
The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents and six were injured in non fire-related incidents.
The Bloomingdale Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $11,483,162 in 2017.
The Bloomingdale FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 43 active employees and 29 retired or inactive employees, was $2,078,647 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $17,616 for every fire in 2016.
