Will County officials report 1,237 coronavirus deaths, with 117,417 confirmed cases
There have been 117,417 confirmed coronavirus cases in Will County as of Dec. 29, with 1,237 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).
Chicago (411,348 cases) and Cook County (397,193 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 6,259, while Cook County recorded 5,701 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 44,273,181, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 426,457 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 995,755 were male and 1,094,416 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 15,101, while female deaths stood at 12,633.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 17,237 whites, 5,048 African-Americans, 4,095 Hispanics, 902 Asians, and 452 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
